The Seed Source of Certain Grasses in Relation to High Altitude Revegetation
ثبت نشده
چکیده
The effects of seed source and seed size on germination and field performance were studied in five grasses. Greater seed weights were associated with better germination in Yorkshire fog, cocksfoot and timothy but not significantly so for Chewings fescue and browntop. In cocksfoot, Chewings fescue and timothy, higher seed weights were found in samples collected at altitudes above those generally used for the commercial seed production of the species. Results from field sowings of a range of provenances on an eroded high alt i tude site in Southland indicated that in most cases seed from local, high country sources gave the best results. This was usually due to high seedling numbers and/or good seedling growth rates.

Considerations for Establishing Native Grasses from Seed for Restoration, Revegetation, and Erosion Control in Western Washington and Western Oregon
Native grasses are increasingly popular and valuable tools for revegetation, erosion control, and wildlife habitat improvement. Many have unique features and benefits that make them advantageous over certain exotic and introduced grasses. In the field of ecological restoration, they are a critical and required component of the target plant community, ecosystem, or natural habitat. A number of n...
متن کاملEffect of Securigera Securidaca Seed on the Gene Expression of Pulmonary Hypertensive Broiler Chickens Induced by Cool Temperature and High-Altitude
Securigera securidaca (Fabaceae) or goat pea is growing wild in West Asia, Europe and Africa as an annual herb. In Persian, it is called “Gandeh Talkheh”. The seeds of goat pea are applied in the traditional medicine to treat different dysfunctions e.g., hyperlipidemia and hypertension. This study was done at altitude of 2100 m above sea level. The effects of dietary Securigera securidaca seed ...
متن کاملPlant-animal interactions affecting plant establishment and persistence on revegetated rangeland
The role of ungulate grazing in shaping rangeland ecosystems is well known relative to other important plant-animal interactions such as pollination, seed dispersal, granivory, and belowground herbivory. Successful rangeland revegetation may be enhanced by strategies that favor certain groups of animals and discourage others. Many perennial forbs and shrubs require animals for successful pollin...

Dr. B. T. Galloway, Mr. Charles F. Deering and Professor W. D. Crocker were elected to membership. The program of the evening was devoted to the subject of "The Relation of Plant Succession to Forestry and Grazing." Mr. C. G. متن کاملTesting a Passive Revegetation Approach for Restoring Coastal Plain Depression Wetlands
Restoration of coastal plain depressions, a biologically significant and threatened wetland type of the southeastern United States, has received little systematic research. Within the context of an experimental project designed to evaluate several restoration approaches, we tested whether successful revegetation can be achieved by passive methods (recruitment from seed banks or seed dispersal) ...
